My time as your mayor…

It has been an honour to serve as Mayor of Prince George over the past four years. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I believe that continuing to serve our city will allow me to build on this progress and take Prince George further.

Raised Prince George’s profile and attracted investment

I have worked consistently to promote Prince George provincially, nationally and internationally, serving as a strong ambassador for our city and region. Through personal outreach and relationship-building, I have helped generate greater investment interest and put Prince George on the radar of investors, businesses and governments beyond our region.

Strengthened Prince George’s financial position

Under my watch the City’s financial reserves, following the challenges associated with the parkade project, growing reserves from $133.6 million (2022)  to $189.3 million in 2025. At the same time, the City’s available borrowing payment capacity increased from $25 million in 2022 to $38.6 million in 2025. These improvements put Prince George in a stronger financial position and give us greater capacity to upgrade our aging civic infrastructures and to build sport and performance art facilities in our near future. The 2026 figures are expected to show further improvement.

Addressed homelessness and public safety

We successfully and peacefully decamped both of Prince George’s most significant encampments. Today, Prince George is the only B.C. municipality of our population size without a homeless encampment. We have also seen a significant improvement in our crime statistics, moving from the highest Crime Severity Index in B.C. in 2022 to fifth today based on the latest available figures.

I also worked to secure a Memorandum of Understanding with the Province on housing and homelessness, creating a stronger foundation for collaboration and action on these complex issues.

Bringing Prince George Together

I have consistently advocated for everyone who calls Prince George home — our seniors, youth, First Nations, and our diverse cultural communities, while building relations with both newcomers and those who have called Prince George home for generations. I have also strengthened relationships with the Lheidli T’enneh, Regional District, Province and Federal Government, including through the Memorandum of Understanding on regional advocacy, giving Prince George a stronger, united voice.

Above all, I love Prince George and deeply believe in what we can achieve together. I am proud of the unique quality of life our city offers, where we can enjoy the opportunities and amenities of an urban centre while being just minutes from nature and rural life. As the hub of Northern B.C., Prince George truly is at the centre of everything, and I want to continue bringing people together to build a stronger, more prosperous and connected happy city.

WHAT HAS MAYOR YU BEEN UP TO?

While maintaining social media may not be my forte, making connections and representing the community is… Here are some highlights of my time as your mayor!
